WE ARE CLOSED FOR THE SEASON! Thank you everyone for a wonderful summer. See you next year!

About Snavely Family Farms

Michael Snavely became interested in a more natural sustainable way of life after seeing more and more news reports on health issues related to water and food.

He began by installing a triple filtered water filtration system.  Then expanded into solar panels for electricity. Mike saw an invitation to a farm that uses aquaponics.  The owner opened his farm to anyone interested in learning about how aquaponics works.

Michael built a small greenhouse to experiment with aquaponics to learn how it works.  Using perch in his fish tanks, he began growing kale, lettuce and strawberries.

Now, with a 3,000 square foot greenhouse, Snavely Family Farms wants to offer others a truly sustainable, organic and non-GMO source of kale and herbs.

From triple filtered water, organic fish food that feed the perch to start the cycle that provides nutrients for the plants to grow.  We use no chemicals, fertilizers or growth assistance on our fish or plants.

Fresh Ideas

As more consumers demand locally grown, organic product in places that traditionally must ship or fly ingredients from around the world, the Aquaponics and urban farming movement is getting some amazing attention. Benefits of using an Aquaponics system include:

  • Environmentally friendly – no chemicals, pesticides or GMOs.

  • Requires 1/10th of the water used to grow vegetables in the ground.

  • No threat of climate change, weather fluctuations or invasive pests given the controlled environment provided by the system.

  • Ensures fresh, local food supplies.

Year Round Produce:

This past Fall, we installed a boiler system to heat the greenhouse year round. This system provides the warmth the plants need to grow all year as well as the ability to keep the water at the optimum temperature for the fish.
